Our backyard is pretty much dead and muddy, and I bought a few bags of wildflower seed (Western xeriscape mix, fire restoration mix, alternative lawn mix) from High Country Gardens to scatter. We'll see how it goes. I do love the vision of having our yards become native meadows and sustainable habitats.Melissahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17287369863084970412noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4156146376396069471.post-42837658086201044402021-01-26T18:08:19.997-08:002021-01-26T18:08:19.997-08:00Another low-water turf option you can indeed do by...Another low-water turf option you can indeed do by seed is buffalograss. It's good if you want to stay strictly natve. Again, site prep helps a lot.Kenton J. And Tracey is awesome.

I'm afraid that the downside of seed is that it does need a lot of site preparation- clean or fresh soil. Existing sod is usually best cut and flipped; CRC's program is awesome. For your situation I'd be tempted to plant dogtuff- low water and no mowing. It comes as plugs and the labor of planting/establishing them pays off in the long run very nicely. Maybe half of your yard that the dog doesn't use could be sown with seed. But a good seed mix of regionally-appropriate perennials is not easily available- which is what we are working on right now. If you do ever get to that place, let me know and I can help with a seed mix. Perhaps there will be one through PlantSelect one day. Kenton J. I was speaking to Tracey Pond and she showed me this Blog on the grasses.
I have an old lawn in Golden, and need to make a change in the last part of the lawn. I do have a dog so I need some type of grasssy area. DO you suggest I tear it up and then plant a low water use seed? I believe it is KBG. I have seen on Resource Central website they have a lawn cutting service at a discount right now.
I also need to add a stone walkway. I successfully ignored that area of grass that it is pretty dead now.
I guess, I am looking for the easiest solution. I am not sure over seeding would work?
Thanks Kenton

Terry SanchezTerry Sanchezhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02523880608533123940noreply@blogger.com
